PhD Comics I: Der erste Tag

English version:

Being a Ph. D. student seems to be a difficult task. So difficult that some seem to surrender and start to procrastinate. For instance the graduated mechanical engineer Jorge Cham waisted his time very successfully on writing and drawing the comic series Pilled Higher and Deeper (short PhD Comics). Instead of constructing the next big thing like the next brain-computer interface he illustrates the everyday life of several Ph. D students settled in Stanford.

But procrastination is not only the motivation of the author. It is although a every day problem of the academic heroes of the comics.

The nameless hero, the engineering student Cecilia, the long time graduate student Michael Slackenerny, the anthropologist Tajel and several others fight in this comics against procrastination, confusing academic methods and, most important, for free food.

While running their life some of their results are published to help real PhD students all of the world to run their personal everyday life.

You can enjoy the current comic and a big archive for free on the original page or selected ones here on digital realism.

In every issue of digital realism one or several PhD comics are presented. The selection does not follow any specific rule. Some are selected because of their currentness, some because of their importance for the editor, or, if you like to, you can send some suggestions. Anyway, enjoy this humorous inside in the every day life of PhD students starting with the first day of the unknown hero at his new university Stanford.
